President Trump says he’s in “deciding mode” on next steps regarding the Islamic Republic.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced additional sanctions against Iran’s commercial airlines and those who offer any services to them beginning September 23.
“All the Iranian airlines, all the Iranian airlines will be shut down around the world,” Secretary Bessent said. “And how do we do that? That if they land, you cannot provide them with fuel, you cannot provide them with landing services, you cannot sell them tickets, or you will be knocked out of the dollar system.“
“Under Operation Economic Outcast, we promised severe consequences for those providing financial lifelines to the Iranian regime,“ said the treasury secretary. “Let this be a warning to anyone doing business with Iran’s remaining airlines… You are at risk of being cut off from the global financial system.“
Over the weekend, President Donald Trump said he was in “deciding mode“ regarding the Islamic Republic. He indicated that there were three possible options: the regime makes a deal with the U.S., President Trump lets them “rot economically,” or the U.S. entirely wipes the regime out.
